Barrobjectif is an internationally respected exhibition of photo journalism held in the village of Barro in Charente, France. It's trademark is that it is held "outdoors" : around 600 large format photos by some 75 well known photographers simply displayed on wood panels and walls around the village. In 2023, the weather was not kind to an outdoor show, but wednesday 20th september promised sunny and dry, so I made the trip with my friend Volker.
As always, a wonderful mix of photo journalism ranging from heartbreaking scenes of war in Ukraine and natural disasters in Turkey to uplifting sports, such as show jumping and a crazy form of rugby in Vietnam.
A highlight of the trip was a chance to talk at length with Jérome Barbossa, newly returned form Ukraine and to discuss his photos and the conditions in the war zone. We also met Pierre Delaunay, founder of the exhibition many years ago and still an active part of the organisation.
