A three day trip with 5 photographer friends to the Camargue to see and photograph the flamingoes and herons around Saintes Maries de la Mer.  We were lucky with the weather, it was fine with a clear sky and not too hot.

We set off in two cars at 6:30am so as to arrive before lunch.  15 mins to drop off the luggage at the hotel and then to a restaurant for lunch.  After a good meal we went to the wildlife reserve Pont du Gau but the light was far too strong, so we spent much of the afternon exploring before starting to take photos at around 17h.  In the end we stayed on after the reserve closed (by agreement) to take advantage of the evening activity of the birds and the sunset.  There was a a lot of activity in a colony of herons which made for some interesting photos.

The day after we set out at 7am to photograph the flamingoes at sunrise, but we had left it too late because it took a while to find a good spot.  Later we went back to the reserve until lunch in a restaurant, then a tour of the surrounding countryside and the Etandg de Vaccares to find bulls and horses plus some further shots of the sunset.

The final morning we started much earlier so as not to miss the flamingoes at sunrise and we were all pleased with the results. During breakfast after, we decided to go to Aigues Mortes to see the salt extraction and to have lunch in the old city before leaving for Limousin.

A great trip and now hundreds of photos to process....
